Welcome to the Qbitz LLC Blog Article - What is the cloud and the risk? Back to Blog

The term "cloud computing" is everywhere. In the simplest terms, cloud computing means storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet instead of your computer's hard drive. The cloud is just a metaphor for the Servers on Internet. ... Storing data on a home or office network does not count as utilizing the cloud.

Cloud security is tight, but it's not infallible. ... But the bigger risk with cloud storage is privacy. Even if data isn't stolen or published, it can still be viewed. Governments can legally request information stored in the cloud, and it's up to the cloud services provider to deny access.

As an example, Oath aka Verizon Media, AOL and Yahoo now say the following in their terms and conditions of service use:"Oath's systems may analyze and store all communications content, including email content from incoming and outgoing mail, as well as incoming and outgoing messages to messaging apps. This analysis may occur on all communications content as it is sent, received, and when it is stored, including content from services synced with your account. For example, in certain use cases, we run automated algorithms on commercial communications to create generic templates of such documents (e.g., using common language to identify the elements of an airline receipt). These templates do not include the recipient's personal data. Oath employees may review the templates to improve our services and our personalization of your experience. We may also manually review certain communications to improve our masking template capabilities, develop tools to assist the automated scanning process, improve segmentation and other automated functions and create generic templates of such documents (e.g., using common language to identify the elements of an airline receipt). Our anti-spam team may review messages flagged as "spam" or "not spam" to improve our anti-spam defenses." These third parties can read your emails anytime they deem it "necessary" and they do not need to inform you it was done.

These days the only cloud that is safe is the Private cloud, or the one in your office. Call us today to take advantage of the private cloud and keep your information yours.
